In September, Aunt Shirley called to say that she had an apple “lead” for us. We loaded up kids, buckets, and grandparents and were off to Laurel. Three hours later, we got home with this haul, which included an unanticipated and heavily loaded pear tree!
Applesauce, apple butter, apple pie filling, pear pie, frozen sliced apples and frozen sliced pears, lots and lots eaten out of hand by the whole family (the beagle even got in on it. He won’t eat popcorn, but he loves fruit. Odd.), and lots made into juice. Some of the apple juice is now perking along into “hard” apple cider, which will in turn be turned into apple cider vinegar! All organic of course, lucky us!!
