Heirloom Tomatoes and Girlie Salads

Mark just refused to eat this salad. I have no idea why, other than the fact that I may possibly have shrieked a little (just a little) when he approached it with the Ranch dressing and a heavy hand. Fact is, this is girl salad. And kid salad. Now that the kids know that nasturtiums are edible, I keep finding empty stems and smelling peppery kid breath. Weird.

The tomatoes (are they honkin’ big or what?!) are the one, the only, the incomparable Pink Brandywine… her date for the evening is Mr Stripey! Both are SO delicious!! And long-lasting too… it’s Nov 8 and I’ve got a “hod” of them still on my counter in shades of either beautiful pink/red and orange/red (as the case may be). The weather outside is turning frightful, a northern sky as pink and heavy with snow as you could wish for on a day with a garlicky, mushroomy beef roast in the oven… and I’ve still got fresh tomatoes on my counter. Life is good!
